Some Bar!

I totally forgot the key element to my last post!
On one of the last nights we were in New York i met this guy in some random bar just up the road from the hostel we were staying in. He claimed that his aunty had met Mike.D. I still don't know whether to believe him....and the mission continues

I want to be a part of it NEW YORK NEW YORK!

I'd been plodding along in London for sometime, not really achieving much! I landed a job nannying for these kids that hated me, but the money was sufficient and the kids were fun when they wanted to be. A friend of mine had been doing camp America in Texas so we decided we'd meet up in New York and finally find the Beasties.
The trip was awesome and New York was amazing, but just before i left i found out the Beasties were touring and would be in Tokyo when i would be looking for them in New York.
Even tho i knew they would be touring, there were signs that lead me to believe i was not too far away from them!
As the plane was coming in to land, there was a New York documentary and the back ground music was...THE BEASTIE BOYS!
So for the majority of the holiday in New York, i soaked up the lifestyle, and the culture, the amazing art galleries and museums and tried to find landmarks which i felt the Beastie Boys had been or shown in their film clips...( for those of you who may know...i walked along where the Beasties filmed the "Alive" film clip, well I'm pretty sure i did, somewhere near a bridge and a park and a path!)
It was awesome, and their 5 Burroughs cd had just been released so i felt i could discover more about what they were talking about and even managed to catch a train on the subway that they rap about...i think the line is something about "we're doing fine on the 1 and 9", 9 being the subway train just down the road ...woo!

The moment of truth!

Well not really the moment of truth, but a moment all the same!
After all these thoughts of getting so close to the Beasties ... i paused and thought, what would i really go if i met them?
All i can do is think of silly things, like ask them what music they like, their favourite food, colour...all those kinds of things.
Never fear, this has not deterred me, i will meet them and i will have a great conversation with them about life and all that fits between!

Good Vibes, Good day, Good tunes

My sister got me 2 tickets, it was ideal because i was having a bit of a struggle with money,oh the life of a student!
I was unsure of what this 'Good Vibrations' festival was all about. In all honesty I only knew about 3 of the acts.
The Beasties were on last and it was such a chilled atmosphere, no crush to the front and it was a mix of all the best and funkiest of their tunes. My friend and I planned to scheme our way into meeting them but by the end of the day and a girl vomiting next to where we were sitting, we gave up!
I got a call the following day from my sister. They had had the best day.
She then proceeded to tell me that her boyfriend had been hanging at a Bondi bar the morning of the concert when three guys dressed in suits, hats, sunglasses and carrying suitcases - when they had seen the Beasties play that night at Good Vibes, he recognised them!
Was there a reason I wasn't at Bondi that morning!I was there the day before, just walking around, why didn't i just run into them... The mission continues

An international phone call

It was about 5 in the morning UK time, I'm almost 100% sure I had been drinking the night before because i remember having to peel my eyes open and take a few deep breaths before i answered the phone so i could be composed and slightly normal.
It was mum, "Hello darling, it's not too early is it?"
Rah and some Grr!
"Darling I'm sitting here with a journalist I'm somewhere on our yacht, somewhere in the world, we've had a bit of wine and I have a story to tell you"
Mum was sailing around the world and lost the ability to know time differences and gained a great ability to make friends over a glass of wine.
Mum had met an ex-journalist that had interviewed the Beastie Boys in their early 90's peak and even managed to get one of them chatting them up.
Fate seemed to be testing me,would i ever get to meet them and stop hearing stories of how everyone else has met them.

A new album, a new concert, a new mission!

I was young and dedicated to my mission.
The Beasties had released their new album "Hello Nasty".
It was a science inspired work of genius (in my eyes at least).
The film clips were full of goggles and boiler suits.
I headed off with two tickets, some goggles as a token of my appreciation for them and a mission to meet them.
We made it to the middle in the front row after purchasing some hats and we waited eagerly.
We handed our 'token of appreciation' goggles to someone who claimed to be a manager of sorts and again waited.
If only they had known i had to steal those goggles from the science classroom in e block, maybe then they would have known the significance.
We didn't end up meeting them, although we did get the chance to individually wave at them while they were watching The Avalanches from backstage...not sure if they saw us coz we didn't get a wave back.
An awesome concert all the same and the start of a long term adventure.

Hello friends.
This is me some many years ago.

I want to share with you many stories, all leading to the same goal.

A simple task that seemed not too far off.

Have you ever been so dedicated to a piece of music that you just had to meet the performers, ask them a few questions?

This blog is about a mission to meet the Beastie Boys and the journey endured along the way.
